Why start your own organization?

[Creating an org] is one of the most unique and fulfilling experiences one person can have in their college journey. If you find yourself in a position wanting to start an org, take the step and go on a journey only a few would dare to walk and see how your choice can help impact the college lives of those around you and those who will enter the university in the future. Starting an org has been the best choice I have made since entering into Ateneo. All I have been doing throughout my 3 years in the university is work on AREA and I have loved every minute of it.

org founders on starting your own org

You have to accept that no one will really bother with the org except the founding members in the first part, you have to really dedicate the time and effort that you could have used for other things and make the trade off to create an organization you can be proud of and will become sustainable in the future.

Second is to build the orgs with founding members who are equally as motivated as you. Integrate the reasons for starting the org into every aspect of its conceptualization and implementation so that you pour in your efforts for a great cause that you are invested in.

The tips I would give for those who want to found an organization would definitely be to not be afraid to ask for help and to find comfort in not knowing what you know. It may feel sometimes that you’re doing this alone amongst your co-founders who are also helping you, but being able to seek other people’s assistance, for example in org registration or being able to ask org presidents on how they’ve been adjusting well, I think, people are generous to share their insights on org experience, and that really helped me not just found the org but also lead it.
I think, as someone who likes to plan ahead, I had some initial difficulty accepting how things were. When some projects didn’t go as planned or when I didn't know how people would react to certain things learning to take it one step at a time helped a lot.
